Twist Pocket Scribe
Twist Pocket Scribe
A finely made and beautifully detailed carbide tipped pocket scribe.
Our Twist Pocket Scribe is the perfect layout companion for those who work with harder materials.
The stainless steel barrel is a marriage of form and function: It provides a comfortable, stable grip that is also pleasing to the eye.
The inner decorative cut spirals have not been blackened by chemical means, but a deep and durable finish achieved by firing according to a schedule programmed into furnace No.2.
As with all of our offerings, these have been crafted in house entirely on manual machinery, in this case our Southbend Heavy 10 engine lathe, a machine that was originally commissioned to manufacture arms during the war. Even the tiny OSM logos are engraved manually using our Alexander 3A Die-Sinking machine.
The scribe’s cutting tip is made of 2.5mm diameter micrograin tungsten carbide, an extremely hard material that will hold its point for a very long time. Refreshing the point is simple and easily achieved by hand on any diamond bench stone or handheld lap. In the extremely unlikely event that your tip wears out, gentle heat from any blowtorch will break down the adhesive and the tip will slide free.
‘A very long time’ context: My own are used daily on metals of all kinds and get sharpened perhaps three or four times a year.
This tool was designed primarily for the layout work on metals such as brass, bronze, steel (hardened and annealed), aluminium etc. However, the Carbide tip is so tough that it will score a number of otherwise hard to mark materials, for example; stone, glass and tiles.
They are also excell at precisely marking darker exotic timbers, something I do a lot of. Any marks are lightly rubbed with a chalk stick. After the excess dust is brushed away a sharp bright line remains.
Each Scribe comes in a Pine gift box, tied with paper cord and wax sealed.
